The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to release Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvez Elahi. The decision was made after Elahi filed a petition against his arrest in a corruption case.

Justice Amjad Rafiq presided over the case and announced that Elahi should be released. The judge also directed the authorities to refrain from arresting the former chief minister of Punjab in any other case.

Elahi was initially arrested on June 1 in connection with a corruption case. However, he was discharged the next day. Soon after, he was arrested again in another case.

In July, Elahi, who was about to be released from Lahore’s Camp Jail in a money laundering case, was instead detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance for 30 days. Following the completion of the MPO detention on August 14, the Lahore NAB team took Elahi into custody from Adiala Jail for allegedly receiving bribes/kickbacks.

During the hearing, the Punjab government presented a letter from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD). The letter highlighted threats to the PTI president.

This is an ongoing case, and more updates will follow.
