Kusal Mendis collides with stumps during Afghanistan versus Sri Lanka match

A funny moment involving Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis went viral during his team’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan at Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

Afghanistan secured their third victory in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with a seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka.

The 1996 champions, batting first, were all out for 241 in 49.3 overs. Pathum Nissanka performed exceptionally well for Sri Lanka, scoring a 46-run knock off 60 balls with five boundaries.

Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama contributed 39 and 36 runs respectively.

Pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi was the most successful bowler for Afghanistan, taking four wickets.

Afghanistan successfully chased down the target of 242 runs, with captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Rahmat Shah all scoring fifties.

Azmatullah Omarzai was the top scorer with 73 runs, including six boundaries and three sixes. Rahmat Shah played a knock of 62 runs off 74 balls with seven boundaries.

Hashmatullah Shahidi contributed 58 runs off 74 balls, including two fours and a maximum.

During the cricket match, a funny incident occurred in Afghanistan when the Sri Lankan player crashed and fell into the stumps while attempting to catch a throw.

The winning team’s victory keeps their chances alive for qualifying for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 semi-finals.

They currently have six points and are in fifth place in the table, two points behind New Zealand and Australia, with the top four teams guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals.
