Joining the fight against skyrocketing electricity and petroleum prices, as well as the crippling inflation, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) will stage a sit-in outside the Balochistan Governor House today (Sunday).
The JI has decided to intensify its anti-inflation movement across the country, starting with the sit-in outside the Balochistan Governor House. The JI Chief, Sirajul Haq, will also be present in Quetta, according to the party’s spokesperson.
During the sit-in, Sirajul Haq will unveil the party’s future strategy to combat inflation, said the spokesperson.
In addition, the spokesperson announced that a sit-in will also be organized outside the Sindh Governor House on October 6.
Prior to this, the JI chief stated that his party will challenge the overpriced agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in the Supreme Court next week. Sirajul Haq also mentioned that a white paper addressing the energy sector will be released.
The protest movement led by the JI will strictly adhere to constitutional and legal boundaries, assured Sirajul Haq.
He demanded that the government provide relief to the public by reducing electricity prices instead of burdening them with expensive units. He also called for measures to combat power theft and line losses, which amount to around PKR 1,000 billion.
