Samaher Abu Jameh, a farmer from Abasan al-Kabira in the Gaza Strip, expresses her anger and frustration at being displaced from her land due to the continuous Israeli bombing. She longs to return to her olive trees and greenhouses but fears for their condition. This sentiment is shared by farmers throughout Gaza, as the months of October and November are significant for the olive harvest, symbolizing Palestinians’ connection to the land. However, the latest war has further exacerbated the challenges faced by farmers, with many being forced away from their lands and homes. Even before the war, the olive-picking season had been marred by violence, with Israeli settlers attacking Palestinians and damaging their groves. In Gaza, the Israeli military targets farmland during times of war and sprays it with pesticides, rendering it unsuitable for farming. The risks are now even higher, preventing farmers like Ahmed Abu Rjeila from accessing their land and worrying about the future of their harvests. The continuous bombing in Khan Younis has resulted in the deaths and injuries of farmers, leaving them heartbroken over their crops and unable to care for their land. Being a farmer in Gaza is already a dangerous occupation, with Israeli forces constantly posing threats to their businesses. Despite the difficulties, farmers like Ahmed Qudeih and Nisreen Abu Daqqa remain determined to regenerate their lands after each war, hoping for a brighter future.
