Two terrorists were killed in separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last night, as announced by the military’s media affairs wing on Thursday. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that a terrorist ring leader named Shmrooz Sheenay was eliminated in an IBO conducted in Khyber district, while another terrorist named Mansoor was neutralized in Dera Ismail Khan district.

The ISPR also stated that weapons, ammunition, and explosives were seized from the deceased terrorists, who were actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces. They were also responsible for extortion and target killings of innocent civilians and were highly sought after by law enforcement agencies.

A sanitization operation is currently ongoing in the area to eliminate any other terrorists present. The local population has shown support for the operations and expressed their willingness to eradicate the terrorism menace.

In a separate incident, two soldiers were martyred in Lakki Marwat district in an exchange of fire with terrorists, resulting in the death of two militants as well. The surge in terror activities in KP and Balochistan over the past year has been attributed to the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ending its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.

According to a security report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, Pakistan witnessed a record six-year high of violence-related fatalities and injuries in 2023, with KP and Balochistan being the focal points of violence. These regions accounted for the majority of fatalities and attacks, including incidents of terrorism and security forces operations.
