The military’s media affairs wing announced on Wednesday that two terrorists were killed and four were injured during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Ursoon, near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chitral district. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces engaged in an intense exchange of fire with militants during the operation. As a result, two terrorists were killed and four were seriously injured. The ISPR also stated that sanitization of the surrounding areas is being carried out to neutralize any other terrorists in the area, and the local community has expressed appreciation for the operation.
In recent weeks, there have been several incidents of violence in Pakistan, including the martyrdom of a Pakistan Army officer and three soldiers during an IBO in the Tirah area of Khyber district, as well as a terrorist attack on the Pakistan Air Force’s M.M. Alam Base. Security personnel have also been martyred in ambushes, bomb blasts, and security operations in Gwadar, Dera Ismail Khan, and Lakki Marwat. These incidents have occurred in the midst of an increase in terror activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the end of the ceasefire between the government and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. In September, the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reported the highest tally of monthly militant attacks in almost nine years.
