A clearance operation conducted by the Pakistan Army resulted in the killing of nine terrorists who were planning an attack on the Pakistan Air Force’s Mianwali Training Air Base. This operation comes after several incidents in which 17 soldiers were martyred in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The incidents included a militant attack in Gwadar, a remote-controlled bomb explosion in Dera Ismail Khan, a security operation in Lakki Marwat, and a remote-controlled blast in Dl Khan. The Inter-Services Public Relations confirmed that the attack on the air base was foiled, with three terrorists eliminated and three others isolated. The military has concluded the combing and clearance operation, sending all nine terrorists “to hell”. Only minimal damage was done to non-operational aircraft, and none to operational assets. The Tehreek-i-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) claimed responsibility for the attack, while caretaker PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar praised the PAF and denounced any attempts to undermine Pakistan’s security. President Dr Arif Alvi expressed satisfaction at the failure of the attack and strongly condemned the attack in Gwadar. Interim interior minister Sarfraz Bugti acknowledged the same enemy behind both attacks and emphasized the need for unity in combating terrorism. Former premier Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and praised the armed forces for foiling the plans of the enemies. Former president Asif Ali Zardari also commended the security forces and pledged support in the fight against terrorism.
