Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar criticized provincial Health Minister Dr Saad Niaz for failing to improve the performance of healthcare facilities after Niaz accused Baqar of interfering in his department. The cancellation of a multibillion-rupee tender has led to serious rifts between Baqar and Niaz. The sources suggested an influential party’s involvement in the tender process and pressure on the health minister to reverse his decision. Niaz issued a statement claiming that the decision to stop the purchase of robots was taken in the light of expert surgeons and noted irregularities in the purchase of robotic systems. Baqar’s issued a statement saying Niaz failed to improve health facilities and was offended when held accountable. Niaz was accused of trying to post his favorite health secretary to carry forward his personal agenda. Baqar expressed his displeasure with the health department’s performance and directed improvements in the inspection system and to keep posting inspection reports.
