Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah will be delivering a speech on Friday, his first since the war broke out. Lebanon’s Hezbollah attacked multiple Israeli positions along the border, leading to a retaliatory assault from Israel. The Iran-backed armed group claimed to have targeted military positions simultaneously using a range of weapons. In response, Israel carried out a broad assault on Hezbollah targets using warplanes, helicopters, artillery, and tanks. The Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona near the border was hit by rockets, injuring two people. The Lebanese section of Hamas’s armed wing also fired rockets in response to perceived attacks on Gazan civilians. Nasrallah’s speech is highly anticipated, both within and outside of Lebanon, as he is a leading figure in the alliance known as the “Axis of Resistance,” which opposes the influence of the United States and Israel. French Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu expressed concern over the possibility of a war between Lebanon and Israel and its potential escalatory effects on the region. The White House is also concerned about attacks on Israeli forces by Hezbollah but has not seen any indication of the group being ready for full-scale action. Earlier, Hezbollah claimed to have shot down an Israeli drone with a surface-to-air missile. The Lebanese army retrieved the bodies of two shepherds killed by Israeli fire, bringing the number of Lebanese casualties to 66, including both Hezbollah fighters and civilians. On the Israeli side, nine people, including soldiers and one civilian, have died.
