Pervez Khattak, the leader of a breakaway faction of the PTI, has alleged that former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s main goal is to “bring about a revolution against institutions.” Speaking during a media talk in Peshawar, Khattak criticized Imran’s lack of strategy in addressing the nation’s challenges and accused him of encouraging dishonesty.
In July, Khattak’s basic party membership was terminated by the PTI after he failed to respond to a show-cause notice for allegedly inciting members to leave the party. The termination letter accused Khattak of failing to provide a satisfactory reply within the given time frame regarding his contact with party members and attempts to encourage them to leave.
During the media talk, Khattak acknowledged that the events of May 9, where protests and attacks on civil and military installations occurred following Imran’s arrest in a corruption case, were not right. He also praised former army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa, whom Imran had accused of conspiring to remove him from office through a no-confidence vote. According to Khattak, Bajwa had provided tremendous support to the PTI, but eventually gave up and stated he could not do more.
Khattak claimed that Bajwa, along with former spymaster Lieutenant-General (retd) Faiz Hameed, had created an election-friendly environment, but Imran did not agree. However, he did not provide further context for these remarks.
Additionally, Khattak boasted that he had brought around 60 percent of “electables” into the PTI. He also warned that the PTI could face a ban and be considered a “criminal party” due to four ongoing cases, namely Toshakhana, cipher, Al-Qadir Trust, and the May 9 riots.
It is important to note that these claims and allegations are made by Pervez Khattak, who has parted ways with Imran Khan’s PTI and may hold biases against him.
