Imaan Mazari, a prominent human rights lawyer, has been given a three-day physical remand in police custody by ATC Judge Abu Al-Hasanat Zul-Qarnain.

The prosecutor alleges that Mazari is involved in “collecting funds to fuel anti-state activities” and has requested her remand to recover the alleged funds and apprehend any potential co-conspirators.

In defense, Mazari’s lawyer, Zainab Janjua, argued that there is no evidence linking Mazari to the individual who registered the case on August 26, 2023. Janjua emphasized that Mazari never met or accepted money from the complainant, challenging the basis of the case against her client. She further added that if Mazari were to be granted bail in this case, another arrest would likely follow.

Mazari’s legal team also contested the need for remand, citing that their client has already spent a significant amount of time behind bars and should be released.

However, the prosecutor stressed that receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a rally does not give anyone the right to endorse anti-state sentiments or activities. The prosecutor added that if the court approves the remand, authorities will gather evidence against Mazari.

After hearing both sides, ATC Judge Zulqarnain granted a three-day physical remand of Imaan Mazari to the police.

It is worth mentioning that the capital police once again arrested Imaan Mazari shortly after an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) granted her post-arrest bail in a case related to “interference in state affairs.”

Right after being granted bail by the ATC, Mazari was re-arrested by Islamabad police officials outside Adiala Jail.

It is important to note that ATC Judge Abu Al-Hasanat Zul-Qarnain had granted Imaan Mazari bail in a sedition case on the conditions of surety bonds worth Rs30,000.
