The KP home ministry has released the Welfare Fund Rules 2023, stating that prisoners will now have their own personal bank accounts to support their families. Talks are underway with the Bank of Khyber (BoK) for the opening of these accounts.

Under the new rules, 10% of the prisoners’ income will go to the government, 30% to the prisoners, and 60% to the Welfare Fund. Additionally, prisoners will be allowed to work in carpet making, furniture, PCO, and canteen.

Wafaqi Mohtasib Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi has urged all stakeholders to ensure the improvement of living conditions for prisoners in jails, especially children, women, and those without resources. He presided over a meeting of the Prison Reforms to review and follow up on the implementation of recommendations in the Report on Prisons.
