Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian cricketer, has acknowledged that South Africa are in a tough group and will have a challenging task to qualify for the Super 8 phase of the T20 World Cup 2024, which begins on June 1. South Africa is grouped with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands, and Nepal in Group D, and South Africa failed to reach the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-finals after a shocking defeat against the Netherlands. Gambhir stated that it will be tough for the Temba Bavuma-led side but he wants them to qualify to have stronger teams in the next round. He also emphasized the limited opportunity to make a comeback in T20 cricket and hopes South Africa will play good cricket and reach the Super 8 at least. The T20 World Cup 2024 will commence on June 1 with matches being played in three venues in the USA and six in the Caribbean. The tournament is split up into four groups, with the top two sides from each group then progressing to the Super Six phase of the tournament ahead of the knockout semi-finals and final.
