The groom, Auhfaq Sheikh, who originates from Ghazi Abbas area in Larkana, got married to his beloved Filipino partner, Maneka.
The wedding ceremonies were held simultaneously at the bride’s and groom’s respective homes, and the marriage registrar conducted their Nikah (Islamic wedding ceremony) over a phone call.
According to the groom, he met his now-wife through Facebook. Unfortunately, due to her unwillingness to come to Pakistan and his inability to secure a Philippine visa before the Nikah, they resorted to the unconventional method of getting married online.
This story follows another cross-border marriage tale that garnered much attention on social media. An Indian groom from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, and a Pakistani bride from Karachi tied the knot online when the woman faced visa delays.
The virtual Nikah ceremony took place in Jodhpur, with all the rituals being performed remotely. The marriage was officiated by a Qazi, and the bride, present in Karachi, gave her consent by saying “Qabool Hai” (I accept).
Arbaaz, the younger son of contractor Mohammad Afzal, residing in Jodhpur, married Ameena, a Pakistani woman. The couple had originally planned the wedding ceremony in Karachi. However, due to visa-related complications, they resorted to an online Nikah.
