A daily 4,000 metric ton oil smuggling discovery in the country results in a monthly loss of $3.56 million to the national exchequer. Oil companies have sought government and OGRA’s help to stop smuggling activities. The Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) has written a letter to the Secretary of Petroleum requesting action to curb smuggling. The letter mentions that the sale of petrol and diesel has decreased by 6.5% compared to last year, due to the impact of oil smuggling on oil supply in China. Therefore, steps need to be taken to stop oil smuggling.

The OCAC has recommended nationwide crackdowns and legislative measures against smuggled oil. The Council has also suggested immediate closure of illegal petrol pumps and initiating a nationwide campaign against oil smuggling.
