The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to NEPRA for an increase of Rs7.13 per unit in electricity prices starting next month. If approved, this would result in an additional burden of Rs66.77 billion on consumers already struggling with inflation.

In its petition, CPPA stated that 7.93 billion units were distributed to power distribution companies in January 2024. NEPRA will review the petition on Feb 23, and any revised prices will not apply to lifeline KE consumers.

It is important to note that on January 31, NEPRA raised the electricity tariff by Rs5.63 per unit due to monthly fuel adjustment (MFA). This decision came after a hearing on CPPA’s petition for a tariff increase under fuel monthly adjustment for December 2023.
