Lahore: The court has issued a notice to the Election Commission on the appeal against the rejection of Imran Khan’s nomination papers.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Ali Baqir Najfi of the Lahore High Court heard the appeal against the rejection of PTI Chairman’s nomination papers, in which Imran Khan’s lawyer, Aziz Bhandari, appeared.
The lawyer told the court that the PTI Chairman had submitted nomination papers for contesting elections from NA-122 Lahore and NA-89 Mianwali. The allegations of irregularities in both places are similar. Allegations of non-verification from the confirming authority have been made in NA-122. According to the law, nomination papers can be rejected for up to 2 years.
Presenting evidence in court, the lawyer further said that there are no allegations other than irregularities in NA-89. The punishment in NA-89 is based on moral degradation. There is no explanation for moral degradation in court decisions.
The court inquired from the Election Commission whether the appellant was convicted for moral degradation? How much punishment was given, to which the Election Commission’s lawyer replied that he would assist the court in this matter. The appellant has been given 2 punishments.
The lawyer of the PTI Chairman said that the Returning Officer and the Appellate Tribunal have relied on the evidence of moral degradation.
Later, the court issued a notice to the Election Commission for the rejection of Imran Khan’s nomination papers.
