In the past 24 hours, the number of dengue cases in Punjab has risen by 126, bringing the total tally to 3,522, according to Ali Jan Khan, Secretary of the Punjab Health Department.

The majority of the newly reported cases were found in 36 districts across Punjab. Lahore, the capital city, recorded a total of 1,417 dengue cases, with 42 cases reported in the last 24 hours. Rawalpindi has seen a total of 854 cases, while Multan and Faisalabad reported 462 and 173 cases, respectively.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that has been rapidly spreading worldwide in recent years. It is mainly transmitted by female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, and to a lesser extent, Ae. albopictus mosquitoes.

Symptoms of Dengue

Dengue should be suspected when a high fever (40°C/104°F) is accompanied by at least two of the following symptoms during the febrile phase:

  • Severe headache
  • Pain behind the eyes
  • Muscle and joint pains
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Swollen glands
  • Rash

Due to the increasing number of dengue cases, it is crucial to take precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the disease. Mosquito control and surveillance activities should be implemented to eliminate breeding sites and reduce the mosquito population. Additionally, individuals should use mosquito repellents, wear protective clothing, and keep their surroundings clean and free from stagnant water.

It is important to seek medical attention if you experience any symptoms or suspect dengue infection. Early diagnosis and proper treatment can help prevent complications and ensure a speedy recovery.
