Cuban Elda William, a former psychologist, found herself struggling to make ends meet after a burst sewage pipe in her home office hindered her ability to attract clients. With her income drying up, she turned to Quisicuaba, a community-led soup kitchen in central Havana for assistance. The project, which is funded by cultural and community groups, donations from abroad, and private gifts, provides meals to 4,000 people per day and offers a delivery service for those who cannot reach the kitchen. The leader of Quisicuaba, Enrique Aleman, emphasized that the project aims to provide a holistic response to those in need, including counseling, shelter, and food. The group has also expanded to address the issue of homelessness by opening a shelter outside Havana. Despite the economic challenges, Quisicuaba is dedicated to helping those affected by the crisis.
