The temporary truce between Israel and Hamas was set to expire on Thursday morning, with international efforts to extend the ceasefire and the exchange of hostages for prisoners in Gaza running out of time. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Tel Aviv for discussions on extending the truce and increasing humanitarian aid into Gaza. Israeli officials stated that military attacks on Gaza would resume if they did not receive a list of hostages to be released by a certain time. Hamas also instructed its fighters to be prepared to resume battles with Israel if the truce is not renewed. Talks were ongoing for a possible extension of the truce, with negotiators working out the terms of releasing Israeli men and Palestinian detainees. The six-day truce has provided a brief respite to Gaza, which has been under bombardment from Israel for seven weeks. Israel has pledged to eradicate Hamas, while health authorities in Gaza report a high number of Palestinian casualties.
