Khalid Hussain Bath, Chairman of Kissan Ittehad, stated in a press conference that the sugar mafia is working to lower the prices of sugarcane and deliberately delaying the crushing season.

Bath expressed his concern that the sugar mafia has always been powerful, causing damage to farmers, the public, and the government through creating an artificial shortage, evading taxes, and receiving subsidies that result in a loss for the national treasury.

He demanded that the caretaker government promptly announce the price of sugarcane in consultation with farmers.

Furthermore, Bath urged COAS Asim Munir to take action against the sugar mafia, as previous governments have failed to control them.

Continuing the press conference, Umair Masood, the central president of Kissan Ittehad, called for direct subsidies to be given to farmers for fertilizers.

Masood explained that the subsidies provided by fertilizer factories do not reach the farmers, who are forced to buy fertilizers from the black market instead.

Earlier, COAS General Asim Munir stated that the crackdown on smuggling and other illegal activities would continue with full force.

During a meeting, the army chief highlighted that illegal activities such as smuggling, hoarding, and instability in the forex market have had negative consequences for the economy.
