The caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Murtaza Solangi, has reiterated the caretaker government’s dedication to abide by the Constitution and adhere to the laws of the country. Speaking to a private news channel, Solangi emphasized that the caretaker government is functioning within its constitutional role and will not engage in any activities that go against the Constitution.

Solangi also stressed the importance of maintaining a level playing field for all political parties. He stated, “We need to demonstrate through our actions that we have no favorites.” He further noted that it is the responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to provide equal opportunities to all political parties. If any party feels treated unfairly, they can approach the ECP and the courts for redress.

Regarding the arrest of Pervez Elahi, Solangi clarified that he was taken into custody based on a First Information Report (FIR) filed against him. According to Solangi, the police have the authority to make arrests if justified by an ongoing case. He emphasized that labeling someone as a political prisoner should not be done if they were arrested in connection with a case.

When asked about the right to freedom of expression and peaceful protests, Solangi affirmed that every individual has the right to express themselves and peacefully protest.

In terms of the upcoming elections, the minister reiterated the government’s commitment to assist the ECP in fulfilling its constitutional duties. Solangi assured that the government will fully support the ECP in conducting the elections according to the established schedule.
