Islamabad, July 27, 2023 – Former federal minister and PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan was released from jail on Wednesday after the Peshawar High Court granted him bail. Khan had been arrested in April on charges of inciting violence during the PTI’s long march on Islamabad.
Following his release, Khan in a video thanked the court for granting him bail and said that he was “not afraid of any pressure” and stood for what he believes to be the fight for a just and welfare state. He also said that he would continue to fight for democracy and the rule of law in Pakistan.
Khan’s release comes at a time when tensions between the PTI and the military are at an all-time high. The PTI has accused the military of playing a role in the ouster of Imran Khan as prime minister in April, and Khan has vowed to bring to justice perpetrators of crimes against the people of Pakistan
The military has denied any involvement in the political process, but it has also warned the people against making “irresponsible statements.”
The release of Ali Muhammad Khan is seen as a positive sign that the military may be willing to engage in dialogue. However, it remains to be seen whether this will lead to a lasting ceasefire between the two sides.
Ali Muhammad Khan called on the government to hold free & fair elections and said that he was confident that the PTI would win.
The release of Ali Muhammad Khan is a significant development in the ongoing political crisis in Pakistan. It remains to be seen whether this will lead to a lasting peace between the PTI and the military, but it is a positive sign that the two sides may be willing to engage in dialogue.
