RAWALPINDI: The financing obtained by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) from commercial banks will not meet the airline’s long-term requirements, despite recent improvements in flight operations.
Out of the total loan amount secured from commercial banks, Rs1.5 billion was used to pay employee salaries, while the remaining funds were allocated for national and international obligations, including fuel payments, aircraft spare parts, and airport charges to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
Abdullah Hafeez Khan, spokesman for PIA, stated that although the airline had obtained a loan from commercial banks, it would not be sufficient for an extended period. “We will manage with it,” he added.
Khan also mentioned that PIA had already disbursed funds, fulfilled national and international obligations, and made payments to oil companies and for aircraft spare parts.
In a press release, the spokesperson highlighted the recent improvements in flight operations, stating that 77 flights would be operational from airports across the country on Sunday.
Of these 77 flights, 25 will be domestic routes, while the remaining will be international routes. The spokesperson further added that 87% of PIA flights were scheduled to operate as planned.
