Arab leaders strongly condemned Israel for obstructing ceasefire efforts in Gaza and called for an immediate end to the deadly assault on Palestinian territory. The Arab League, at a summit in Bahrain, demanded the deployment of a United Nations peacekeeping force in the occupied Palestinian territories until a two-state solution is implemented.

The leaders expressed their frustration at Israel’s continuous aggression and blamed them for the ongoing war in Gaza. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt, who is mediating between Hamas and Israel, also accused Israel of evading peace efforts.

The Arab League reiterated its support for a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine and called on all Palestinian factions to unite under the Palestine Liberation Organisation. They condemned Israel’s expansion of settlements in the occupied territories, which are considered illegal under international law.

The summit also addressed the attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who claim to be targeting Israeli-linked ships in solidarity with Palestinians. The Arab League condemned these attacks, stressing the importance of freedom of navigation in the region.

Despite its long history of conflict resolution efforts, the Arab League has struggled to make a significant impact in the region’s ongoing conflicts. The situation remains dire in Gaza, with thousands killed and severe humanitarian crises unfolding.
