Amir Muqam, the President of PML-N Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has suggested that the general elections scheduled for February 8 should be delayed by two to four weeks due to security threats and adverse weather conditions in the tribal belt. The Election Commission of Pakistan and President Arif Alvi had previously agreed on the February 8 date for the polls. However, caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti has acknowledged the terrorist threats faced by political leaders and the general security situation. Muqam emphasized that elections are essential for the country but expressed concerns about the security and weather conditions in certain areas. He suggested a delay to allow more people to participate in the democratic process. While the PML-N has not officially taken up the matter with the ECP, Muqam believes that the party is in the best position to contest the upcoming polls in KP.
