In a shocking incident that has gone viral online, 32 female students have fallen ill after consuming chicken at their hostel in Vijayanagara district, Karnataka.
The incident occurred when the students developed symptoms of stomach ache, vomiting, and diarrhea in the middle of the night after consuming a chicken meal for dinner at the hostel. They were immediately transferred to a government hospital for treatment.
Authorities have reported that 28 students were admitted to the hospital at midnight, and an additional four students fell ill later, resulting in a total of 32 students being hospitalized. Out of the 32 students, six are currently receiving special care, while the others are recovering, according to hospital authorities.
The hostel houses a total of 148 students, with 131 students consuming non-vegetarian food and 17 students sticking to a vegetarian diet. It was after dinner, when the students went to sleep, that they began complaining of severe stomach pain around 2 a.m. Subsequently, they developed other symptoms as well.
In order to determine the exact cause of the illness, authorities have instructed the collection of blood samples from the affected students. Additionally, a sample of the chicken consumed has been sent for testing.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the students fell ill due to the chicken consumed for dinner. Further investigations are currently underway to confirm this suspicion.
