The fifth largest democracy in the world, Pakistan, is conducting its elections today to choose its representatives for the next five years. A large number of citizens are expected to participate in what is the most expensive polling exercise in the country’s history. The election sees participation from various parties such as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement- Pakistan (MQM-P), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) as well as numerous independent candidates, some of whom are backed by PTI.
