Islamabad: The government has started considering an increase in the price of petrol by up to 11 rupees per liter from February 1st onwards. According to details, the government has decided to increase the prices of petroleum products for the next fifteen days while keeping the exchange rate adjustment in mind. It is said that there is a possibility of an increase of 8 to 11 rupees in the price of petrol per liter and an increase of 2 to 7 rupees in the price of high-speed diesel. Additionally, it is also being suggested that the government will maintain the prices of kerosene oil and light diesel for the next fifteen days. It is estimated that there will be an increase of 1 rupee per liter in the price of light diesel and a decrease of 1.50 rupees per liter in the price of kerosene oil.

The calculation of the fifteen days starting from February 1st is based on the current rates of Petroleum Levy (PL) and General Sales Tax (GST). It should be noted that the price of Brent crude oil had increased from $3 per barrel on January 16th to reach $83 per barrel, and then decreased to $78 per barrel, while the price of high-speed diesel had increased to $97 per barrel after the increase.
