New York: The effects of powerful solar storms colliding with the earth have begun to manifest in the sky. According to international media reports, the most powerful solar storm in decades collided with the earth on Friday, resulting in spectacular light displays in the skies in countries including the United States and the UK.
Experts warn that the solar storm poses a threat to satellite systems and power grids, but so far there have been no immediate reports of disruptions in electricity or communication.
Experts say that the sunspot cluster’s overall spread is several hundred thousand kilometers, which is 15 times greater than the total area of the earth. The last time such a severe storm occurred was in 2003.
Reports indicate that many people in the US and UK witnessed the spectacle of lights in the sky on Saturday morning, with images of the phenomenon being shared on social media.
British meteorologist Chris Seneil from the Met Office said that these sightings were observed throughout the country, with images also obtained from other European locations such as Prague and Barcelona.
