It is necessary for the people to have information about their eligibility to vote and the processes involved in voting in their constituencies in order to participate in the electoral process. We will tell you about the stages that the voter will have to go through at the polling station on election day and the procedures and precautions to be taken when casting a vote.
On the day of the election, voters should be aware that after entering the polling booth, the polling officer will first check the original national identity card and the details in the electoral list. An expired national identity card will also be acceptable when casting a vote.
The polling officer will call out the voter’s name and serial number in front of the polling agents and mark off the name from the electoral list. The polling officer will then take the voter’s thumb impression from the national identity card and mark it with indelible ink on the thumb of the voter.
The second stage involves the assistant presiding officers issuing ballot papers after recording the signature and stamp on the back of the ballot papers. They will issue a green-colored ballot paper for the national assembly and a white-colored ballot paper for the provincial assembly.
The voters will then go behind the voting screen and put their stamp on the electoral symbol of their chosen candidate in the correct manner. The green ballot paper will be put in the ballot box with a green lid, and the white ballot paper will be put in the ballot box with a white lid.
The voters present at the polling stations will be bound to observe the rules and regulations. The voter will have to ensure the secrecy of their vote when casting their vote at the polling station. Mobile phones and cameras will be prohibited inside the polling station. Even after the designated time for polling has ended, voters present within the boundaries of the polling station can still cast their vote.
