Pakistani Regime of Sharifs, Zardari and Generals has brought six constitutional amendments in literally one or two hours that have once again changed the whole constitutional structure of Armed Forces, Supreme Court and High Courts. Now Army Chiefs will be appointed for five years, and will get extension for another five years, effectively making the tenure of an Army Chief ten years. Yet, another amendment, in Art 8C of Army Act, has removed upper age limit of the office of Army Chief. It was 64 years, as a result of 2919/20 amendment that had increased it from 62 to 64, new Amendment simply removed the upper age limit, meaning at least theoretically, that once a general is made an Army Chief, he may never retire.
Supreme Court judges have been increased from 17 to 34 and Islamabad High Court judges from 7 to 12. All to dilute the authority of judges that were resisting the military controlled regime.
