The administration of the Federal Urdu University in Karachi has taken a complex decision to declare the selection board of teachers invalid, prompting the Urdu Development Society of Pakistan to write a letter to the university’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Zafar Iqbal, objecting to the unlawful act of declaring the selection board invalid and demanding action against those responsible.

It should be noted that on March 8, the university’s acting Registrar issued three separate letters, including one from former Vice Chancellor Dr. Ziauddin, declaring the decisions made by the selection board during his tenure, along with others, invalid, and these letters were distributed during the Senate meeting held on February 20.

The approval of these decisions in the report has been mentioned. It is further stated that no decision was made regarding the 47th selection board of 2017/2013, which is referenced in the letters issued by the university, as no report regarding this matter was presented to the members, hence the decision was postponed.

The President of the Urdu Development Society further mentioned in his letter as evidence of his claim that he consulted with 7 other senators (Shahid Shafiq, Shakil Rahman, Saeed Allah Wala, Dr. Khalid Anis, Dr. Huma Baqai, Dr. Tanveer Khalid and Dr. Farhan Shafiq) who also agreed that no such decision was made in the Senate, hence these letters are incorrect and unlawful and action should be taken against those responsible if any legal complications or contempt of court arise as a result of these letters, the responsibility will lie with the university Registrar.

It should be noted that the decision to declare the selection board invalid and the resulting situation has arisen at a time when the Vice Chancellor has been in Islamabad for the past week, instead of the central campus in Karachi, amid protests from thousands of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff.
