Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi has said that the government and the Election Commission are not happy with the decision of the Lahore High Court, and security matters for the elections are serious.
Speaking on Express News program Center Stage, the Minister of Information said that the training of ROs and DROs should have been completed before December 16. He said that the Election Commission was not happy with the Lahore High Court’s decision and it is evident that we are also not happy with the judicial decision.
Speaking on the program, he said that we have not seen the judicial order but the Election Commission has to deal with it. He clarified that my comment does not reflect on the observation of the honorable judge.
The Minister of Information said that the process of training the officers has been halted after the judicial decision, and the Election Commission intends to file a petition in the Supreme Court against the Lahore High Court’s decision.
Murtaza Solangi said that in the past, the Election Commission had prevented the involvement of judicial officers in the elections, and we have not received any recommendation to involve any country including America. There is no intention to discuss any recommendation on the issue, nor has any recommendation been received.
The Minister of Information said that security matters are serious for the elections. Our 23 soldiers were martyred in DI Khan a few days ago, which is a very tragic incident. He said that Afghanistan has become a haven for terrorists, which is a serious threat to the peace of the region. We are in contact with Afghanistan for action against terrorists.
He said that JUI leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has been attacked, and attacks have also been carried out on the convoy of Siraj-ul-Haq.
Referring to the postponement of elections in the past, he said that even when Benazir Bhutto was martyred, elections were postponed, but he clarified that it is our responsibility to provide security for the elections.
We will provide full security for the elections. Despite security concerns, we will deal with the threats.
