The Sindh High Court has been informed by the Sindh Home Department that the payment of compensation to the families of missing persons has been stopped. The High Court has ordered the federal secretary of home, defense secretary, and others to submit a report on the applications regarding the payment of compensation to the families of missing persons.
Under the leadership of Justice Naqamullah Phulpoto, a two-member bench of the Sindh High Court heard applications related to compensation from the government to the families of missing persons, in which representatives of the Sindh Home Department informed the court that the department has stopped compensating the families of missing persons on behalf of the government.
A spokesperson stated that some people had objections to the payment of compensation, so it was stopped. Justice Naqamullah Phulpoto remarked that those who have objections should stop receiving money, and those families of missing persons who want compensation from the government should receive it. Forced disappearance means a citizen is in the custody of any agency.
The court directed that until a missing person is not presented in front of a court, the government should continue to pay compensation to their families. The court also ordered the publication of advertisements in print and electronic media to locate missing citizen Majid since 2015. The court also directed the country’s prison authorities and other officials to provide information on missing persons.
The court has ordered federal secretary of home, defense secretary, and others to submit a report on February 28.
