Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden expressed regret over the resignation of former Pakistan cricket team captain and star batsman Babar Azam, saying that those responsible for this decision have overlooked Babar’s exceptional performance as captain and batsman.
Speaking to cricket website Cricket Info, the former Australian batsman highlighted the issues within the Pakistani cricket system, emphasizing that challenges within the Pakistani cricket team are not limited to individual leadership but encompass the entire framework.
Criticizing the decision of Babar Azam to resign from the captaincy, Matthew Hayden said that those responsible for this decision have ignored the exceptional performance of the player and captain Babar Azam. He stated that relevant individuals have not paid attention to Babar Azam’s performance as an ordinary player and then as captain.
Hayden said that as a captain, Babar’s performance has been even better, and his leadership has improved after becoming the team’s leader. His batting average is above 50, making him a natural leader and a good choice, but in my opinion, there has been premature criticism regarding his leadership abilities.
Matthew Hayden further added that Babar is a young and top-ranked player in world cricket, which made him doubtful and regretful about this decision.
It should be noted that after the poor performance of the Pakistani team in the World Cup, Babar Azam resigned from the captaincy of the national team in all formats.
